GGPoker Ocean Rewards: Up to 80% Cashback
On 30 January 2026 GGPoker replaced its long-running Fish Buffet with Ocean Rewards, a loyalty program built on two currencies and eight tiers. The headline figure is up to 80% cashback, and the most player-friendly change is that a tier, once reached, stays with you until the end of the year.
Why Fish Buffet was replaced
Fish Buffet served GGPoker for years: you earned points, spun a wheel for rewards or, at the Platinum level, collected a flat weekly cashback. Its ceiling was 60% for GGPlatinum members, and its time cycles were harsh: miss your point targets and you were demoted.
Ocean Rewards keeps the core idea of playing and getting money back, but lifts the ceiling to 80% and drops the short-term pressure. GGPoker calls it the most rewarding loyalty scheme in online poker. Whether it is the best one for you depends on your volume, but the improvement over Fish Buffet is real.
Enrolment is automatic for most players. In certain regulated regions you have to opt in through the client; everywhere else there is nothing to do except keep playing.

Tide Points and Gems
Every dollar of rake or tournament fees earns about 100 Tide Points and about 100 Gems. The two currencies do different jobs. Tide Points only measure progress: collect enough and you move up a tier, and the promotion applies immediately.
Gems are the money side of the program. Their base amount is multiplied by your tier’s Gem multiplier, so the same dollar of rake brings more Gems to a Dolphin than to a Fish. Gems are then traded for cashback in the rewards shop inside the client.
GGPoker has also said that cashback will not be the only thing Gems can buy, so the shop may gain new items over time.
Eight tiers from Fish to Shark
The tiers in ascending order are Fish, Shrimp, Crab, Turtle, Octopus, Dolphin, Whale and Shark. The estimated cashback is about 16% for Fish, 25% for Shrimp, 30% for Crab, 40% for Turtle, 50% for Octopus, 60% for Dolphin, 70% for Whale and 80% for Shark.
These are estimates, not fixed rakeback rates. Your real return depends on how many Gems you collect at your multiplier and on the size of the trades you make in the shop. Still, the figures give a fair picture of the gap between the bottom and the top of the ladder.

The cashback curve
The official chart shows cashback climbing steadily from roughly 16% at Fish to roughly 80% at Shark. The steps are fairly even, about ten points per tier in the middle of the ladder, so every promotion is noticeable in money terms.
For a recreational player the first few tiers already make a difference compared with no loyalty program at all. For a high-volume regular the stretch from Octopus to Shark matters most, because at that level cashback becomes a serious part of overall results.
Keep in mind that a higher tier is a consequence of rake paid, not a goal in itself. Climbing faster than your bankroll allows defeats the whole purpose of a rewards program.

Trading Gems: size matters
The exchange rate improves with the size of the trade. 5,000 Gems buy $5, a rate of 1,000 Gems per dollar. 45,000 Gems buy $50 at 950 per dollar, and 90,000 Gems buy $100 at 900 per dollar. The official rate table goes further, down to 660 Gems per dollar for the largest exchange of $50,000.
The practical conclusion is simple: if you do not need the money right away, it pays to save Gems and trade a bigger block. Swapping every small batch for $5 leaves part of your cashback on the table.

Status protected until the end of the year
The most welcome change is year-long tier protection. Once you reach a tier, it stays yours until the end of the calendar year. A busy month at work, a holiday or a break from poker no longer costs you your status.
For existing players the switch was smooth. Unclaimed Fish Buffet rewards were cashed out to balances, Platinum Octopus members moved straight to Octopus, and tier placement used either the current Fish Buffet rank or the points collected from 1 to 30 January 2026, whichever was higher. Fish Points earned between 1 December 2025 and 30 January 2026 were converted into Tide Points.
Fast formats such as Rush & Cash generate rake, and therefore progress, quickly. Play within your limits all the same: cashback lowers the cost of poker, it does not make losing sessions profitable.
