Open Face Chinese Poker (OFC): Rules, Scoring and Fantasyland (2026)
Open Face Chinese poker has no betting at all. You build three poker hands out of thirteen cards, face up, one street at a time — and get paid in points for every row you win and every bonus you make. It’s easy to learn and surprisingly deep. Here are the standard Pineapple OFC rules, how scoring works and why everyone chases Fantasyland.
Updated: 16 October 2026- You build three rows: top (3 cards), middle (5) and bottom (5). The bottom must be at least as strong as the middle, and the middle at least as strong as the top.
- Break that order and you foul: you lose all three rows and get no bonuses.
- You score points for each row you win, a bonus for winning all three, plus royalties for strong hands.
- Make a pair of queens or better on top without fouling and you enter Fantasyland: next hand you get all your cards at once.
- Point values, royalty tables and Fantasyland rules can differ by app and club — check the table settings.
What is Open Face Chinese poker
OFC is a variant of Chinese poker where cards are placed face up as they are dealt, so everyone sees how the others are building their hands. There are no chips in the middle and no bluffing: you win or lose points, and the club sets how much each point is worth.
Almost every club app plays the Pineapple version: you receive three cards per street, keep two and discard one. That makes hands stronger and the game faster than “classic” OFC, where you get one card at a time. This article covers Pineapple OFC.
Rows and fouling
Your three rows are ordinary poker hands. On the 3-card top row only high card, pairs and three of a kind count — straights and flushes don’t exist with three cards. The rows must go from weakest on top to strongest at the bottom:
| Row | Cards | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Top | 3 | Must be weaker than or equal to the middle |
| Middle | 5 | Must be weaker than or equal to the bottom |
| Bottom | 5 | The strongest row |
If your finished hand breaks this order — for example, a pair of kings on top and a pair of nines in the middle — the hand is fouled (also called “dead” or “mis-set”). A fouled hand loses all three rows to every opponent who didn’t foul and earns no royalties.
How dealing works in Pineapple OFC
- 1Each player gets five cards and places all of them face up in any rows. Players act in turn, starting to the left of the button.
- 2On each of the next four streets you get three cards: place two, discard one face down.
- 3Once placed, a card can’t be moved. After five streets every player has exactly 13 cards in their rows.
- 4Hands are revealed and compared row by row; points are settled between every pair of players.
Pineapple OFC is played by two or three players: each uses 17 cards (5 + 4 × 3), so three players take 51 of the 52 cards. Classic OFC, with one card per street after the first five, can seat up to four.
Scoring: rows, scoop bonus and royalties
Every player is compared with every other player separately. The most common scoring used in apps:
- 1 point for each row you win (a tied row scores nothing);
- +3 bonus for winning all three rows — a scoop, 6 points in total;
- royalties for strong hands in each row, paid to you by each opponent;
- a fouled hand loses as if scooped and gets no royalties; if both players foul, no points change hands.
Scoring example
| Row | Player A | Player B | Row winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | 6♠ 6♦ 2♣ (royalty 1) | Q♣ Q♥ 4♦ (royalty 7) | B |
| Middle | K♠ K♦ 9♣ 5♥ 3♠ | J♣ J♦ 8♠ 8♥ 2♦ | B — two pair beats a pair |
| Bottom | Flush A♥ J♥ 9♥ 7♥ 4♥ (royalty 4) | Straight 10-9-8-7-6 (royalty 2) | A — flush beats a straight |
| Rows | 1 | 2 | B +1 (no scoop) |
| Royalties | 1 + 4 = 5 | 7 + 2 = 9 | B +4 |
| Total | −5 | +5 | B also qualifies for Fantasyland (QQ on top) |
Royalty tables
These are the standard Pineapple OFC royalties used by most apps. Some clubs use different tables — check the table info.
| Hand | Bottom row | Middle row |
|---|---|---|
| Three of a kind | — | 2 |
| Straight | 2 | 4 |
| Flush | 4 | 8 |
| Full house | 6 | 12 |
| Four of a kind | 10 | 20 |
| Straight flush | 15 | 30 |
| Royal flush | 25 | 50 |
| Top row | Royalty |
|---|---|
| Pair of 6s / 7s / 8s / 9s / 10s | 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 |
| Pair of Js / Qs / Ks / As | 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 |
| Three of a kind: 2-2-2 … A-A-A | 10 for 2-2-2, +1 per rank, up to 22 for A-A-A |
Fantasyland
Fantasyland is the bonus round that makes OFC addictive. If you finish a hand with a pair of queens or better on top and don’t foul, on the next hand you get all your cards at once, set them face down while the others play street by street, and reveal at the end. Seeing everything in advance makes big royalties much easier.
OFC strategy basics
Setting the first five cards
| First 5 cards | Good setting | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A♠ K♠ 8♠ 4♠ 2♦ | Bottom: A♠ K♠ 8♠ 4♠; top: 2♦ | Four to a nut flush at the bottom; a low card on top costs nothing |
| Q♥ Q♣ 7♦ 7♠ 3♣ | Bottom: Q♥ Q♣; middle: 7♦ 7♠; top: 3♣ | Safe and flexible. QQ on top is a Fantasyland shot, but then both lower rows must beat a pair of queens |
| 9♠ 8♦ 7♣ 6♥ 2♠ | Bottom: 9♠ 8♦ 7♣ 6♥; top: 2♠ | Open-ended straight draw at the bottom; keep the middle and top open |
- Principles that save points
- Build from the bottom up: a strong bottom row gives you room for the middle and top.
- Count your outs using every card you can see — your rows, opponents’ rows and your own discards are dead.
- Chase Fantasyland when the risk of fouling is reasonable — it is worth a lot of points over time.
- Late in the hand, take the safe line: a small win beats a foul.
- Watch what opponents need: if they are drawing to the same cards, your odds drop.
Common OFC mistakes
- What costs players points
- Putting a high pair on top too early and fouling later.
- Drawing to flushes or straights when most outs are already visible on the table.
- Forgetting that discarded cards are dead.
- Over-chasing royalties in the middle row instead of securing the bottom.
- Ignoring the club’s point value — a fun-looking game can have big stakes per point.
- Before you play OFC in a club
- How much is one point worth?
- Which royalty table does the table use?
- Is Fantasyland standard (14 cards) or progressive, and what are the stay rules?
- How many players, and what is the time limit per street?
Variance in OFC
OFC swings are driven by royalties and Fantasyland: one Fantasyland hand with big royalties can be worth more than dozens of normal hands. Scores per hand are small, but streaks of good or bad cards add up fast, especially at high point values. Plan your bankroll in points the same way you would in buy-ins — see poker variance explained and bankroll for club poker.
Where to play OFC
OFC is available in most club apps: PPPoker (Pineapple), PokerBros (Pineapple OFC), ClubGG, X-Poker and Pokerrrr 2. As always, which tables run depends on the club.

01How do you play Open Face Chinese poker?
You place 13 cards face up into three rows — 3 on top, 5 in the middle, 5 on the bottom — so that each row is weaker than the one below it. Rows are compared with each opponent for points.
02What is a foul in OFC?
A hand where the rows are in the wrong order, for example a stronger top than middle. It loses all three rows and gets no royalties.
03How do you get into Fantasyland?
Finish a hand with a pair of queens or better on the top row without fouling. Next hand you receive all your cards at once.
04What is Pineapple OFC?
The most common version: after the first five cards you get three cards per street, place two and discard one.
05Is OFC scoring the same everywhere?
No. Most apps use 1 point per row, +3 for a scoop and the standard royalties, but point values, royalty tables and Fantasyland rules can differ by app and club.
