How to Create Your Own Poker Club: Step by Step (ClubGG, PPPoker, X-Poker)

Creating a club in a poker app takes two minutes. Running one — approving players, setting tables and rake, handing out chips, building a team of agents and actually filling the tables — is where the work is. Here’s the whole path, using ClubGG as the main example and noting how other apps differ.

Key takeaways
  • In ClubGG creating a club is free — up to 3 own clubs per account. In PPPoker creating and renewing a club is paid with diamonds; Pokerrrr 2 charges Gold for hosting games.
  • Players join by your club ID or a share link; you approve them manually or turn on Auto Approve.
  • You set every table yourself: game, format, blinds, buy-in, time bank and rake with a cap.
  • Apps don’t promote clubs — you bring players yourself, through communities and catalogs.

Why create a club — and which kind

People create clubs for very different reasons, and the reason shapes every setting that follows.

Home game with friendsA closed club, manual approval, a couple of tables at the stakes your group plays. Simple and private.
A community clubFor a stream, a chat or a forum. More tables, clear rules, maybe free rolls for members.
A club with agentsPlayers deposit through agents, the club earns from rake. This needs roles, a chip log and a serious attitude to payouts.
A club for a unionA club built to plug into a union’s shared tables and bring its own players there.

Step 1. Create the club

  1. 1
Install the app from the official store and register. The club belongs to the account that creates it — use your main account: in ClubGG the creator role (Master) can’t be transferred.
  2. 2
On the home screen tap Create Club. In ClubGG it’s right below the club search; if the button is inactive, the account already has 3 clubs.
  3. 3
Enter a name and upload an avatar. The name must be unique; keep it short and readable, without other brands or words like “Official”.

  4. 4
Note the club ID shown in the club header — 6 digits in ClubGG. You’ll use it for invites and for your catalog listing.

Step 2. Invite players and set up approval

Players find your club only by its ID or a share link. Decide up front who gets it: for a home game — private messages only; for an open club — communities and catalogs.

ModeHow it worksBest for
Manual approvalRequests land in Club Menu → Members → Applicants List; you accept or decline eachHome games, clubs with deposits, clubs with agents
Auto ApproveAnyone who enters your ID gets in automaticallyFree freeroll clubs with nothing to protect

With Auto Approve your club ID is effectively public. In a club where money is involved, keep manual approval: every agent must know whose player each newcomer is.

Step 3. Create tables

In ClubGG: Create New Table → game → format → settings → Create. Games include NLH, PLO 4/5/6, OFC and Short Deck; formats are Ring (cash), SNG (starts when seats fill) and Tournament (on a schedule).

SettingWhat it controls
GameNLH, PLO, PLO5, OFC, Short Deck and more
SeatsFrom heads-up (2) to full ring; 6-max is the most popular
Blinds and anteThe stake of the table
Buy-inMinimum and maximum entry, in big blinds
Rake and capThe club’s commission and its maximum per hand
Time to act and time bankToo short annoys beginners, too long slows the game
ExtrasStraddle, bomb pots, run it twice, rabbit hunt, HUD rules — depends on the app

Start with one cash table — for example 6-max NLH — check that the settings and rake work, then add the rest. Five empty tables scare players off more than one table with a game running. Some settings can’t be changed on a live table, so double-check before you tap Create.

Step 4. Set the rake

The owner sets the rake per table: a percentage of the pot and a cap — the maximum taken from one hand. ClubGG also lowers it automatically on short-handed tables: a 3–7 seat table with 2 players takes 50% of the normal commission, an 8–9 seat table takes 50% with 3 players or fewer, and a heads-up table always takes 100%.

  • Always set a cap — uncapped rake drives regulars away from bigger games and PLO.
  • Compare with the market: ClubGG clubs in our catalog charge about 5–7% with 40–50% rakeback.
  • Decide early how you pay rakeback and how it’s calculated.
  • Publish rake and cap for each stake — players will ask anyway.

Step 5. Hand out chips

Games run on the club’s chips. The owner and managers issue and reclaim them through chip management in the club menu, and every operation goes into the log. Once you have agents, chips usually flow down the chain: owner → agent → player; an agent gives players chips from their own credit and asks upstream for more.

  • Rules that save nerves
  • Issue chips only after payment is confirmed or by clear agreement — never on a promise.
  • Reconcile the chip log with your own records and your agents’ every week.
  • Never give chip rights to someone you don’t fully trust.
  • When a player says chips “disappeared”, check the log first — chips only leave through play or an admin action.

Step 6. Assign roles and agents

In ClubGG roles are changed in Club Menu → Members → member → Member Role. Permissions go down the list, and restrictions on an agent apply to their whole downline. Details — roles and agents in ClubGG.

RoleWhat it can do
Master (creator)All permissions; the only one who can create a union or disband the club. Can’t be transferred.
ManagerAlmost like Master, but can’t create a union or disband the club. Unlimited access to club chips.
Super AgentManages agents and players in their downline; gives chips from their credit.
AgentManages their own players and gives them chips from their credit.
PlayerDefault role: plays and requests chips from their agent.
Don’t make agents Managers “for convenience”: a Manager has unlimited access to the club’s chips. A Master or Manager can view each agent’s statistics and restrict their games; in ClubGG the Stop Limit is set in the Union Back Office at club level.

Step 7. Join a union — or stay independent

A new club rarely has enough players to keep tables running all day. Joining a union gives your players shared tables with every club in it. In ClubGG only the Master can create a union; in PPPoker you agree joining with the union’s management. In exchange your club follows the union’s rules on shared tables — rake, jackpot, games — and settles results with it.

In a unionInstant traffic and more stakes; your rakeback deal becomes your main competitive edge.
IndependentFull control over rake and games; you have to fill the tables yourself.

Step 8. Bring in players

Club apps don’t promote clubs: there’s no public list, so your ID has to reach players some other way. List the club in the RatePokerClub catalog — it’s free. Players filter clubs by app, stakes and rakeback, and honest reviews and the verified badge help you get your first members.

  • What a good listing includes
  • Stakes and games you actually run, and when the tables are busy.
  • Rake, cap and rakeback — in plain numbers.
  • Chip rate, currency and deposit and withdrawal methods.
  • The union, if any, and lobby screenshots.

Common mistakes new owners make

  • Turning on Auto Approve in a club with deposits — random people walk in.
  • Rake above the market with no cap — regulars move to the club next door.
  • Deleting a member without saving their stats — in ClubGG it can’t be restored.
  • Making agents Managers — and giving them unlimited access to club chips.
  • Using Disband Club to “start over” — all club chips and credits are deleted for good.
  • Ignoring local law: whether running real-money games is legal depends on your country.
